Student’s Success Honoured By Minister
A Welsh Government Minister has helped to mark the success of University of South Wales (USW) student.
Julie James AM, Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, met Fashion Marketing and Retail Design student Hannah Morgan, 19, at a special event at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.
Hannah, from Alton in Hampshire, was one of a large group to be recognised at the Senedd event, marking her success in the new creative arts category at the Skills Show, which was held Birmingham’s NEC earlier this year.
The event is designed to test the range of competitors’ skills in their chosen trade. Hannah focused on visual merchandising – the skill of developing floor plans and three-dimensional displays in order to maximise in-store sales.
“This is a great honour for Hannah and shows how the skills she has learned on her course can be put to practical use,” said USW lecturer Sarah Lees.
“She now been chosen for the UK squad and is undertaking more skills training and taking part in other events that could eventually see her competing in European and worldwide competitions.
“She has been doing this on top of her studies and looking for internship opportunities to take up during her year-out of study.”
