USW Welcomes Young Gamers This Summer
The University of South Wales will host two teams this summer as they take part in a UK-wide competition to help identify young gaming designers and developers.
USW was named as one of ten regional hubs across the UK earlier this year to host teams who are competing in Tranzfuser. Each hub will help to mentor graduates who have been selected to take part in the programme.
Participants will have access to their regional hubs and leading industry support where possible, providing the best knowledge-base and resources available across the UK.
The teams that will be hosted by USW – Duel Fuel and Topkek – will compete against 18 other teams across the UK. Each team will develop their ideas into working prototypes over the summer in a competition that culminates in a national showcase event.
This is the first time a UK-wide talent programme has been linked directly to a prototype fund, allowing new teams to benefit from grants and interaction with a host of other early stage games development companies.
Successful applicants have been awarded a £5,000 budget to help cover costs throughout the 10-week-long competition. The money will be paid in stages to replicate how they would be paid in the real world.
At the showcase event later this year, selected teams will be invited to pitch for follow-on funding of up to £25k from the UK Games Fund to commercialise their game and launch a company.

This is a fantastic competition for young games designers and developers to be a part of and will hopefully give graduates a step towards establishing themselves within the gaming industry.”
Tranzfuser is being delivered by UK Games Talent and Finance CIC (UKGTF) and is funded by the UK government.
