USW Work With Walesonline To Inspire Budding Journalists

USW is currently working with WalesOnline to offer local 6th Form students the chance to work a day in the life of a journalist.
The new SchoolsRule project will give 12 students from Lewis Girls School, the first to engage with this project, the chance to guest edit the WalesOnline app and Facebook page as well as film the whole experience.
The 12 students will undertake different roles such as, Editor, Social Media Editor, Filmmaker and will even be generating their own content for online use.
In order to prepare the students Senior Lecturer, Julie Kissick is holding a session on journalism and understanding what makes a story newsworthy.
Student, Jasmine Warrell, 17, said “I came into this lesson not knowing much about journalism, I think this has prepared me for our day at WalesOnline and helped me have a better understanding of what makes a news story worth reading.”
The students will take over on Tuesday 15 March. Keep up-to-date with their progress via WalesOnline’s Facebook page and mobile app.
