Vintage Pop Up Shop Huge Success
Fashion Marketing & Retail Design students ran a pop up shop in the Capitol Centre last week, over 3 days which was a huge success, with retail totals over £3700.
The shop was part of a live project for second year students as they sourced garments locally suitable for sale in the pop up, which ran from Thursday 12th May to Sunday 15th May.
The pop up was part of Platfform, which is a collaborative project between Fashion Marketing & Retail Design, and Fashion Promotion students. Thursday evening also saw the launch of the new Platfform magazine by Fashion Promotion, at an event at 29 Park Place, Cardiff.
“This has been an invaluable experience” commented Sarah Lees, lecturer for Fashion Marketing & Retail Design. “From their initial concept presentations to working in teams of buyers, ecommerce ,social media and graphics to produce an omni channel experience, the live brief has given them real experience in the challenges of retail and they have enjoyed the experience immensely”.
The event was also a perfect example of collaborative working within the Faculty of Creative Industries, with music business student Marie Briggs helping the fashion students to source performers for the event, one of which was also a media production student at USW. The live bands performed on the Saturday of the event, in the Capitol Centre.
The pop up marked the start of a series of events for Fashion, with the annual Fashion Show taking place at Tramshed in Cardiff this Friday, 20th May: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/university-of-south-wales-graduate-fashion-event-tickets-24101248483
