Student wins university golfing honour
A Caerleon student has beaten nationwide competition to scoop a top university golfing honour.
University of South Wales (USW) Business Management student Joe Du Feu, 19, who is a former pupil of Caerleon Comprehensive School, finished ahead of all comers in the Exeter Invitational Golf event.
The British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) event saw most of the top student golfers from across the UK compete over three days.
USW Sports Coaching student Oliver Mottram, from Caldicot, finished in third place.
“This was a fantastic performance by both students, and we’re very proud of their achievements,” said Ryan Statton, who manages the Golf Programme at USW.
“They’re working very hard to get to the top of their game – not only practising up to 30 hours a week, but also studying at the same time.
“It can be a difficult juggling act, but we make sure that they are well supported in both their sporting and academic pursuits, so they are prepared for an alternative career should they not reach the heights they aspire to in their chosen sport.”
