Extra Show Arranged For New Take On Iconic Show

So big was the demand a week before an iconic show is to be staged in Theatr Felinfach, an extra show has been arranged.
An ambitious production of the iconic show ‘Teilwng yw’r Oen’ will be staged at Theatr Felinfach this week, based on Handel’s Messiah, one of the most recognised musical works in the world which presents these beautiful melodies with a modern twist. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The additional matinee will be on Saturday 14 January at 2:30pm along with the three night performances on 12, 13 and 14 January 2017 in Theatr Felinfach. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Dwynwen Lloyd Llywelyn, Head of Theatr Felinfach, said: “This project has certainly commanded enthusiasm and interest, and it is plain to see that putting on a production which brings together local talents and a professional crew in an unique take on this iconic show is something the audience want to see. With a waiting list for tickets of 200 people, it was simply a matter of putting on another show to allow that audience to see the production.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Rhys Taylor will be the Musical Director, a freelance professional musician, originally from Aberystwyth, who has created a new arrangement of the original work. There will be two professional guest soloists, Deiniol Wyn Rees, originally from Pencader, Carmarthenshire, who has strong connections with Theatr Felinfach, but who now lives in London and Non Wyn Williams, an actress and member of the Welsh girl band, Eden. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

There will also be a chorus of about 70 voices, created from three community choirs from various areas of the county, the Aeron Valley which is home to Cardi-Gân a mixed four part choir, Lampeter which is home to Corisma a ladies choir and the boys choir Meibion Y Mynydd hail from the Ponterwyd and Devil’s Bridge area. The instrumental foundations for the show will be provided by the Ceredigion Music Service and a few professional musicians. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The production is only possible due to Theatr Felinfach securing a number of grant applications that were recently awarded, that will combine community and professional performers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

An application made to the Arts Council of Wales by Theatr Felinfach for a sum of £5,000 was successful, while the Friends of Theatr Felinfach were equally as successful with an application to the Big Lottery Fund for £4,702. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Friends were also successful in being awarded £500 by the Ceredigion Community Fund and have been fortunate to receive donations towards the project by many Community and Town Councils, including Blaenrheidol, Ciliau Aeron, Henfynyw, Llanarth, Llanfihangel Ystrad, Llangoedmor, Lampeter, Llangrannog, Llanwenog, Llandysul and Ystrad Meurig. Theatr Felinfach has also received a donation of £250 from Castell Howell Foods Ltd., £500 by G. D. Harries and Sons and sponsorship of £120 each from these businesses: W D Lewis a’i fab, Dere i Dorri Hairdressers, Cwmcoedog Cottages and Huts and Ji-binc and Jac-do Shop, Aberaeron. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
