Emergency Now Have A Choice Of Telephone Numbers

Residents and organisations contacting Powys County Council in an out-of-hours emergency now have a choice of telephone numbers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

For enquiries about services such as highways, housing repairs, refuse, and environmental health there is a choice of both local code (01597) and 0845 numbers. This has recently been extended to emergency out-of-hours calls. The choice is given to offer callers the most cost effective number depending on their individual call plan. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Adding call options for the emergency line, as well as highlighting the choices available, is a direct action from the council’s anti-poverty work. Councillor Joy Jones, Powys County Council’s Anti-Poverty Champion, said: “I was made aware that some people incur higher charges for 0845 numbers, particularly if calling from mobile phones. So I am pleased that, as a result of raising this through my anti-poverty champion role, this was looked at and change has happened. As a result those who need help, particularly in an urgent situation, can do so without incurring additional charges.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
