Affordable Housing Penrhyn Bay

This article is old - Published: Wednesday, Feb 1st, 2017

Penrhyn Bay has the fewest affordable homes in the county. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Penrhyn Bay has one of the County’s lowest proportions of social rented housing and also one of the lowest proportions of private rented housing. Ultimately this means that households who cannot afford to buy have very few housing options in the area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In an exercise carried out by the Housing Strategy Team, Penrhyn ward was identified as a priority for intervention due to the: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

  • % of the population unable to afford to buy on the Open Market
  • number of households registering Penrhyn as an area of choice
  • ratio of social housing available by population

In response to this need, Conwy’s Cabinet has agreed to dispose of land at Plas Penrhyn to develop affordable homes. This vacant parcel of land is within the Authority’s ownership and is already allocated for housing in the Local Development Plan (LDP). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cabinet Members have agreed to dispose of the land for a residential development with 100% allocation of affordable housing. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Sue Lloyd-Williams, Cabinet Member for Housing, Social Care and Health said: “There’s a severe shortage of affordable homes in the County Borough. In this instance, it’s within the Council’s gift to seek a 100% allocation of affordable housing on this land, and in the process make a significant difference for future generations.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Anyone having difficulty finding suitable housing to rent or buy in Penrhyn Bay is invited to drop by Penrhyn Bay Library on Thursday 2 February between 3pm – 7pm. We would like to hear your views on our plans to build affordable housing to either rent or buy in your area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
