APSE Best Performer 2016 Award

Conwy County Borough Council were named Best Performer for Parks, Open Spaces and Horticultural Services yet again at the Performance Networks Awards 2016 run by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE). ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The not-for-profit local government body works with over 300 local authorities and specialises in promoting excellence in frontline service provision areas. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The awards are measured using performance data from member authorities and factors such as quality, cost effectiveness and productivity of frontline services are considered. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

APSE Chief Executive Paul O’Brien said, “The winners … of these awards are proof that, despite the squeeze of austerity and continuous budget cuts, local councils can still offer excellent frontline services that successfully serve their communities.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Head of Neighbourhood Services, Andrew Wilkinson commended the work of the Open Spaces Team, saying, “Conwy’s parks and green spaces are vital and well-used assets of our communities and it is fantastic to see the skilled and dedicated staff who maintain them being recognised as Britain’s best once again.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Member for Highways, Environment and Sustainability, Cllr Dave Cowans was also pleased with the results, stating “This award is well earned in the face of stiff competition and is a huge complement to our staff. It also recognises the importance CCBC place on the quality our parks and open spaces afford to both resident and tourist alike.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
