New Council Offices Project
Demolition work is set to start as the project to build new Council Offices gets underway in Colwyn Bay town centre.
Welsh Government Economy Secretary, Ken Skates, visited Colwyn Bay (31/10/16) to learn more about the project as the Council handed the keys over to the contractors.
Members of Conwy’s Office Accommodation Project Board, Colwyn Bay Councillors, the Deputy Mayor of Colwyn Bay and the Chair of the Business Improvement District met the Council’s development partner Muse Developments, along with their lead contractor Bowmer & Kirkland, on site for an overview of the development and an opportunity to ask questions.
The contractors will move on site on later in the week and work to demolish the existing buildings will start in mid-December to make way for the new Council Offices.
Cllr Dilwyn Roberts, Leader of Conwy County Borough Council, said: “It’s a real pleasure to see the project progressing well and I’m looking forward to seeing work starting on site. This new office building will help to streamline our office accommodation, but it’s also a key part of our vision to revitalise the town – bringing people into the heart of a town brings vitality, footfall and spend.”
Wes Erlam, development director at Muse, said: “It’s been great to join our partners and celebrate such a significant milestone in this project. We’re working with the Council to deliver this important development which will help them to operate more efficiently and reduce their carbon footprint by bringing a number of key services together into one energy-efficient and accessible building.”
The site clearance is expected to take about 12-16 weeks.
Construction of the new offices and car park is scheduled to start during Spring 2017, with completion expected in Autumn 2018.
