Promenade Traffic Restrictions Lifted Over Christmas

Colwyn Bay promenade between Marine Road and the Cayley Embankment will be open to two-way from 23rd December until 3rd January 2017. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The extensive waterfront regeneration programme has been developed to protect our coastline from flooding and in doing so greatly enhancing the area for local residents, the business community and visitors to the area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Nonetheless, the Council is aware that the work has caused some disruption to nearby business and motorists. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Member, Cllr Dave Cowans, said, “I’d like to thank everyone for their patience whilst this work is taking place, and I’m pleased we’ve been able to lift the traffic restrictions over the festive period.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In the new year the size of the site will gradually reduce. The aim is that in February the site will be reduced to 100 metres in length, at which point the contractor will be able to use traffic lights to manage two-way traffic. This section of the work (up to Marine Road) is scheduled to be substantially completed by 31st March 2017. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The promenade from Marine Road to the pier is unaffected by these arrangements and will remain closed to all vehicles until May 2017. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
