Youth Service Awards Success

Conwy Youth Service had a double celebration at the recent Youth Service Awards. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Firstly one of their projects won the award for ‘Outstanding Youth Work Project Promoting Cultures in Wales’. And to top off the evening’s success the Service received its Bronze Quality Mark awarded by Welsh Government. The awards were held at Venue Cymru in Llandudno. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The winning project, Pysgota yn ardal wledig Conwy (Fishing in the rural area of Conwy) provides fishing lessons for youngsters to encourage them to use more Welsh while at the same time teaching them about local history and traditions. The project delivers fishing workshops over an area of more than 300 square miles across rural Conwy, including after-school angling clubs at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy in Llanrwst and Ysgol Creuddyn in Penrhyn Bay. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Jane Williams, Head of Youth Service at Conwy County Borough Council said: “We were delighted that one of the Youth Service projects was successful at the awards. and to have been awarded with the Bronze Quality Mark. We’re very proud of the variety of our youth provision in Conwy and, by receiving the Bronze Quality Mark, our work with young people from Conwy County Borough has been recognised across Wales.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
