Denbighshire Flies The Flag For Armed Forces Day
Final preparations are being made ahead of the North Wales Armed Forces Day being staged this weekend and a flag has been raised at County Hall, Ruthin to commemorate this important event.
The family fun event will take place in the grounds of Bodelwyddan Castle on Saturday, June 18th between 11am and 4pm and will honour and celebrate the commitment of all of the armed forces.
The Armed Forces flag has been raised at County Hall, Ruthin as arrangements are put in place ahead of Saturday’s event.
Councillor Hugh Irving, Cabinet Lead Member for Communities, who is also the Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “It is an honour for the Council to be hosting the event this coming weekend, on behalf of the North Wales authorities.
“The armed forces often put their lives in danger to ensure the safety and well-being of people around the world and what better way to recognise them than to host a special day in their honour.
“We look forward to welcoming the crowds on Saturday. A lot of effort has gone into this event to make it a day to remember”.
Meanwhile, the Council arranged two competitions for local schoolchildren, to celebrate Armed Forces Day. One competition was to design some bunting that will be displayed at the event, the other to design a flag for Armed Forces Day.
The winners were Jessica from Ysgol Caer Drewyn (Corwen) for the banner competition and Ysgol Carrog with the bunting competition. They were awarded at a presentation held at County Hall.
Councillor Ann Davies, Chairman of Denbighshire County Council, said: “We were delighted to host the competition and were very impressed with the quality of the creative entries.
“It was a difficult decision to make, but the winning entries stood out for us as being the most eye-catching and we were delighted to welcome the winners to County Hall, to celebrate their achievements”.
