Police in Caernarfon are urging residents to be vigilant following a number of burglaries in the area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Reporting anything suspicious to police at the time anything untoward is seen and ensuring that doors and windows are left secure is just part of the advice being issued to those living in the area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

It’s hard to believe but the truth is that most local incidents occur as a result of doors and windows being left open, which was the case with the recent burglaries. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sergeant Ian Roberts of Community Safety based in Caernarfon said, “We would like to remind you of quick and easy steps to keep your home and belongings secure. Take a few extra seconds to check that you have closed and locked all doors and windows each time you leave your home. Remove valuable items from view if possible. If you feel particularly vulnerable please call 101 and request a free home security survey by your local PCSO”. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Fortunately this type of crime is not common in the area but patrols will be stepped up in order to reassure the community.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The town’s PCSO’s will be participating in an anti-walk-in burglary operation in the coming weeks when during their patrols, if they identify an insecure property such as a ground floor window or front door left open they will first attempt to engage with owners to offer crime prevention advice. If they are unsuccessful, they will be posting a specially-designed leaflet through the door/window. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The purpose of the leaflet drop is to highlight to the occupier that luckily it was a police officer/PCSO who called at their home on that particular day and not a burglar. This hopefully will reinforce the message of how important it is to lock windows and doors and keep their valuables out of sight. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
