Further Plaudits For Council In Annual Appraisal
Wrexham Council continues to lead with “vision and ambition” and is helping to “deliver improved outcomes” for residents, according to a review of its services published this week.
A new Annual Improvement Report (AIR) from the Wales Audit Office (WAO) has praised Wrexham County Borough Council for its continued improvements in performance.
The AIR pulls together the findings of a number of monitoring bodies; including WAO, the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) and the education inspections body Estyn.
Its aim is to give a thorough look at how a council is performing and those areas on which it may need to focus in the coming year.
This year’s AIR summary notes: “Wrexham County Borough Council’s vision and ambition are helping to deliver improved outcomes for citizens.”
It also notes that the authority continues to collaborate with partners in a bid to improve results across its priority areas.
The report has not made any recommendations for the council, instead citing proposals put forward in the Corporate Assessment, which was published at the end of February.
The equally positive corporate assessment described Wrexham Council as an authority with strong, inclusive leadership, and has “established a clear vision and strategic direction that is effectively supporting improvement”.
The assessment also described the council as having a “track record of prudent financial planning and strong budgetary control”.
Cllr Mark Pritchard, Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Finance, Performance and Governance, said: “While we were expecting a positive appraisal in the Annual Improvement Report – particularly given the assessment of the authority in the corporate assessment earlier this year – it is nevertheless very welcome to see this kind of appraisal.
“Like any other authority, there will always be areas in which we can make improvements, and we take on board those challenges.
“But overall, the authors of the report have noted that Wrexham Council is an authority with strong corporate leadership in place, which has continued to deliver improved results on the ground to citizens and service users.
“That’s very strong praise in the current climate, and I think it’s fantastic news.
“Our officers and partners should be congratulated for their hard work in ensuring our services remain up to the high standard which they have reached.”
