Council properties in Erddig are the latest in the County Borough to receive improvement work. Wrexham Council is currently carrying out extensive improvement work on its housing properties to ensure they meet the Welsh Government’s Welsh Housing Quality Standard by the 2020 deadline. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Properties in Erddig, including houses on Bennion Road and Huntroyde Avenue are being reroofed as part of the scheme. Kitchens and bathrooms are also due to be replaced here in the next few months, at properties which require the work to meet the new standard. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Community leaders visited properties in Erddig recently to view the work and meet with roofing contractors, Pinnacle Slating and Tiling. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Local Member for Erddig, Cllr Bob Dutton, commented, ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“This work on roof replacements and bringing bathrooms and kitchens up to Welsh Housing Quality Standard is a solid and multi-million pound investment in its social housing portfolio by the Council. We would like to thank tenants and owners for their help in driving this major scheme forward and co-operating with officers and contractors to ensure the community has quality living accommodation in its properties for many years to come.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Pinnacle Slating and Tiling owner, Warren Howell, said, ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We are proud to work alongside Wrexham Council on their project to bring properties up to standard. We are committed to ensuring that the work we do is of a consistently high standard and I hope the tenants in this community will be very pleased with the improvements to their properties.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Wrexham Council will be investing £54m in housing improvement work in 2016/17. This includes a £7.5m Major Repairs Allowance grant which the Welsh Government awards to local authorities to support them achieving the Welsh Housing Quality Standard. All properties in the County Borough will need to have achieved the standard by the Welsh Government’s 2020 deadline. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

As well as new kitchens and bathrooms, other internal and external improvements such as electrical rewiring, central heating and External Wall Insulation will also be carried out on properties where the work is required for them to meet the standard. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Council anticipates that the following work will be carried out across the County Borough over the next 12 months: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

• 2,500 properties offered new kitchens and bathrooms ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

• 600 properties being offered new heating systems ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

• Around 900 properties being rewired ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

• Over 750 properties being reroofed ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

• 187 properties having External Insulation fitted ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Lead Member for Housing, Cllr Ian Roberts, commented, ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We are investing over £90m to bring our housing up to standard between 2015 and 2017. This is an extensive project which will bring a number of added benefits to the local community, such as apprenticeships, employment and spending on local business. The project is currently well on track and it’s been great to see properties all over the County Borough benefitting from the improvement work.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
