Revamped Toilets Will Serve Town Centre Visitors

Toilets on Henblas Street have re-opened after a four-month renovation project. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

After tens of thousands of pounds of investment, which consisted of a total remodelling and fit out of the former toilets within the Grade II listed building – which forms part of the General Market – the toilets are now open to the public from Monday to Saturday between 9.00am and 5.00pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The facilities will provide for male, female and disabled users, and will be serviced by a full-time attendant in order to ensure safety and cleanliness, supported by a 20p charge to use the facilities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The toilets were temporarily closed after an Executive Board decision in February 2015, when the council decided to review existing provision of town centre toilet facilities, and develop an upgraded provision at Henblas Street which would better serve all visitors to the town. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

An investment of £100,000 from the council’s capital programme was spent on renovating and improving the facilities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Neil Rogers, Lead Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “Providing town centre toilet facilities is very important to all visitors to Wrexham, and is especially important to certain groups – including families with young children, the elderly and the disabled. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“With a full-time attendant on site, we can also re-assure the public that the toilets are kept clean and safe. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
