Shared Lives Employment Opportunity

Wrexham Council is looking for individuals to join their Shared Lives scheme – an alternative to home care/day care and care homes for older people. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The only qualifications are that applicants are caring, considerate, committed, trustworthy and honest. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The positions are self employed and are very flexible in hours from 3 – 37 depending on what the applicant can offer. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Joan Lowe, Lead Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The well-being of those in our community is hugely important and as we look for alternatives to traditional care for older people to helping them to lead independent lives for as long as possible it is essential they have the support in the community to do that. Being a shared carer will mean you are helping to maintain that independence whilst making friends along the way. Please, if you feel you have the necessary qualifications and just a few hours week, consider making an application. It will be a rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable experience.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Shared Lives Scheme helps people to enjoy a better quality of life in their chosen community by allowing them to remain independent and developing friendships and inclusion within their chosen community. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

It helps those with a range of needs including those who need assistance with personal care, emotional support, support with finances and support to maintain a social life. They may also have additional needs such as mental health, physical disability or other health problems, which can be supported by community services. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
