Wrexham Museum Retains Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service Status
Visitors to the County Borough Museum can be certain of a Quality Assured visit after it retained the Quality Assured Visitor Attraction accreditation under the Visit Wales Visitor Attraction.
This year’s assessment the Museum achieved a percentage score of 94% and received the Gold standard “for attractions that achieve excellence for their facilities and customer service.”
Highlights from the assessor’s report describe “Exciting audio visual presentations and interactive programmes helped bring local stories to life” and in the report’s recommendations the museum are advised to “ensure that regular maintenance and servicing of computer programmes is carried out so that down time of equipment is kept to a minimum. Future developments describe using space for additional visitor access as well as redeveloping the courtyard with area with sculptures and interpretation.
Lead Member for Communities and Performance, Cllr Hugh Jones, said:
“Congratulations go to the staff who have worked hard to ensure that the visitor experience to the Museum is both excellent and memorable. There are currently two excellent exhibitions on display and I can highly recommend a visit.”
This year’s assessment was funded by the Welsh Government through the Museums, Archives and Libraries Division and Visit Wales to help Accredited museums develop their potential as visitor attractions.
Many of the areas looked at under the VAQAS scheme are also requirements of the Museum Accreditation Standard.
Currently on display at the Museum are the Welsh Football Collection and a visiting exhibition from the British Museum showing graphic images of the rock art of the San People. The main exhibition area is also displaying Royal Welch Fusilier memorabilia and local artefacts and displays. It has a popular cafe and entry is free.
