Wrexham Schools A-Level Results 2016

Students in Wrexham schools are once again celebrating as they receive their A Level results, which reflect further progress at a time of stability in outcomes across Wales. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The overall A level pass rate in Wrexham schools is 98.5% which is higher than the all Wales figure of 97.3%. More than three quarters of the grades awarded were A* – C, which is a slight dip when compared with last year’s “best ever” performance. However, there has been further improvement in the number of top grades awarded, with more than 30% achieving the A*/A grades, which is significantly above the all Wales figure of 22.7%. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

96.2% of Wrexham schools’ sixth formers achieved the Level 3 threshold, which is on a par with last year’s figure. The Level 3 threshold performance measure takes into account all qualifications, including A and AS Level, vocational and skills qualifications. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The pass rate for Wrexham schools’ sixth form leavers achieving the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma qualification maintains last year’s excellent performance of 98%, which is almost 10% above the all Wales figure of 89.8%. This year, 93% of Wrexham schools’ sixth formers followed the qualification (more than ever before) which requires students to be successful in a range of traditional academic, vocational and skills qualifications. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

I am particularly pleased to see the further increase in the number of students achieving the higher Grades A*/A, at a time when the performance across Wales has dipped for this indicator.
