Have Your Say On The Promotion Of The Welsh Language In Blaenau Gwent

This article is old - Published: Tuesday, Jan 10th, 2017

The Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 sets out to modernise the legal framework regarding the use of the Welsh language in the delivery of public services. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In September 2015, Blaenau Gwent was issued with a Compliance Notice which set out a requirement to implement 171 of the 176 standards. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

One of the statutory requirements of the new Welsh language standards is to create and publish a five year strategy which sets out how we will promote and facilitate the use of Welsh. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

We have developed a Draft 5 Year Strategy which outlines our proposed strategic priorities. We have also included a target to increase the number and percentage of Welsh speakers and learners in Blaenau Gwent to ensure that we play our part in supporting the Welsh Government’s vision of a million Welsh speakers by 2050. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This is a strategy for the Borough as a whole, not for any one organisation. Delivering the strategy will therefore rely on partnership working, between the public, private and education sectors and, most importantly of all, with the people of Blaenau Gwent. We will achieve this through the effective implementation of an action plan which will be developed following full consultation with our partners and citizens. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Consultation opens 9 January 2017 and closes 3 February 2017. Please complete the consultation survey in the Strategy. If you wish to receive a paper copy of the consultation, please contact: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
