Best Ever GCSE Results For Bridgend County Borough

Bridgend County Borough is celebrating its best ever set of GCSE results, with local examination success improving for the fifth year in a row. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The initial school returns for all examination boards show that the number of GCSE students who have achieved at least five A* – C grades in both English (or Welsh First Language) and Mathematics (the level two threshold) has increased to 61.1 per cent, which is a 2.3 per cent rise on last year’s results. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Across the county borough, early indications based on WJEC results only suggest that the overall percentage of pupils who gained A* – G grades is 98.1 per cent. The county-wide percentage of students who collected grades at A* – C has risen two per cent to 67.2 per cent, while an impressive 19.4 per cent achieved either an A* or A grade. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Huw David, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Deputy Leader, said: “These are Bridgend County Borough’s best ever GCSE results and I’m thrilled that we have bucked the UK trend by posting such impressive overall results. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Brynteg Headteacher, David Jenkins stated: “We are very pleased with this year’s GCSE results. They confirm the trend of improvement within the school and we congratulate all of our students and staff on the results. Their hard work has once again been rewarded.
