Christmas Recycling And Waste Collections
Bridgend County Borough residents are asked to take note of changes to recycling and refuse collections over the Christmas period.
Collections scheduled for Boxing Day will instead take place on Tuesday 27 December and, as a result, all other collections will be one day later than usual for the remainder of that week up until Saturday 31 December.
Collections will return to normal from the week commencing Monday 2 January.
Don’t forget that you can recycle all of your Christmas food leftovers, including your turkey carcass, in your kitchen caddy. Christmas cards can be recycled by placing them in your black box for cardboard, but wrapping paper can’t be recycled unfortunately, so please put it into your black bags instead for the refuse collection.
The council’s recycling partners Kier will be putting on an additional vehicle over Christmas to collect the extra cardboard that is accumulated at this time of year. So, if your cardboard isn’t collected with your other recycling, don’t worry – the crew will be around later in the day to pick it up.
Please make sure any large cardboard is folded or torn into smaller pieces ready for collection, and please do not put out any polystyrene packaging. Polystyrene cannot be taken for recycling at the kerbside, so please put it into your black bags instead for the refuse collection, or take it along to your nearest Household Recycling Centre where it can be recycled.
The county borough’s three Household Recycling Centres are in Brynmenyn, Maesteg and Tythegston. The centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, but will be open on all other days from 8:30am – 4:30pm.
When the time comes to take your tree down, if it is a real tree you can recycle it at the Household Recycling Centres, while from Tuesday 3 January real trees can also be taken to the council’s Waterton Depot in Bridgend, which will be open seven days a week from 7am – 7pm.
