Seafront Road Closed During The Porthcawl Elvis Festival

Bridgend County Borough Council and South Wales Police have once again been working with the organisers of the Porthcawl Elvis Festival (23 – 25 September) to make this year’s event as enjoyable and safe as possible. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

To help ensure that crowds attending the festival can enjoy strolling safely along Porthcawl’s coastline in their blue suede shoes and colourful costumes, a stretch of the main road along the seafront will be closed for the majority of the weekend. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Visitors to the event, and local residents, are advised that the road will be closed from the junction between The Green Avenue and The Esplanade through to the junction between The Portway and the Eastern Promenade. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The road will be closed all day on Saturday 24 September from 6am onwards. It will stay closed on Sunday morning until 2am, when it will re-open, but will then close again for the rest of the day from 6am until midnight. Timings may vary slightly in order to ensure the smooth running of the event. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Temporary diversions will be in place and drivers are asked to pay close attention to the temporary signage when driving in and around the town over the festival weekend. One-way systems will also be in place in Victoria Avenue, Doddridge Way and Park Avenue in order to minimise congestion on the diversion routes. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The majority of the Eastern Promenade will be closed to all vehicles other than taxis, coaches and mini buses that are dropping Elvis fans off at the event, but the Salt Lake car park will still be open and accessible. Additional signage will be provided to guide drivers to the car parks and dedicated drop-off zones. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Ceri Reeves, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “As the Elvis Festival weekend attracts thousands of visitors, several changes were made to the infrastructure around the event last year to make it safer and more enjoyable than ever. Those changes included closing a stretch of the road along the seafront and introducing a new drop-off zone on the Eastern Promenade. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
