A stall was also held in Caerphilly Council’s headquarters, Ty Penallta, where wooden decorations, planters and bird boxes were sold. This successful event saw total proceeds of £108.12, which was then donated to the Mayor’s Charity, Velindre Cancer Care in Cardiff. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

All items donated and sold are made by young people working with the Youth Offending Service, with items or proceeds from the sale of items being donated to organisations. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Robin Woodyatt, Cabinet Member for Social Services said: “Well done to the Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly Young Offending Service for their generosity in donating hand-made items to Brookland Adult Day Centre, as well as proceeds from the sale of such items. The creation of woodwork products is a fantastic way for young people to gain new skills which can be used in the future”. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Youth Offending Service ensures that young people who must carry out unpaid work or reparation in the community are also given opportunities to learn new skills when completing tasks. Throughout 2016, several young people were taught woodworking skills. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
