Orphans in some of the most deprived areas of the world are to benefit from winter clothing donated from the Caerphilly county borough.
Caerphilly Council staff and a number of primary schools in the area have been donating bags of old winter clothing to a charity appeal called ‘Operation Orphan’.
Throughout June, the charity’s ‘Keep a Child Warm’ initiative is arranging collections of clothing from all over the country. Many of the children who will benefit from the appeal live well below the poverty line and many face extreme weather conditions throughout the winter months.
Representatives from the charity visited Caerphilly’s Council’s HQ at Penallta House this week to collect donations from staff. The Mayor, Cllr Dianne Price, congratulated the team on their efforts before they moved on to arrange collections from primary schools across the area.
“We were keen to take part in this worthwhile charity appeal which will benefit children in some of the most poverty-stricken parts of the world,” said Cllr Price. “I would like to thank everyone who donated clothing and we look forward to building on this success in future years.”
Operation Orphan has been running for the last four years and has made a positive impact on many young lives.
