Be A Conservation Volunteer For The Day At Plymouth Great Wood

Plymouth Great Wood is getting a pre-Spring clean during half-term week and everyone is invited to come along and be a conservation volunteer for the day. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The City of Cardiff Council’s Community Park Ranger team, working together with Cardiff Rivers Group, Action in Caerau and Ely (ACE), Keep Wales Tidy and RSPB Cymru, will be down in the woods from 10am – 3pm on Friday, February 24 giving this designated Site of Importance for Nature Conservation a thorough clean up. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

There will be plenty of opportunity for everyone from children to grandparents to get involved in a range of hands on conservation tasks, including coppicing, pond clearance, habitat management and litter picking. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Bob Derbyshire, said: “Together with our Community Park Rangers, the groups involved in this event do some great work for the city. I know from personal experience that as well as doing something really valuable for the environment, volunteering at events like this is also really good fun. It’s a great way for families to spend time together in the great outdoors and for communities to show just how much they love where they live.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

If you’d like to be a conservation volunteer for the day then meet at the Frank Road entrance to Plymouth Great Wood at 10am wearing sensible, suitable clothing. All equipment will be provided. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
