Love Where You Live Campaign Hits Adamsdown This Week

Plasnewydd was the latest ward be cleaned and cleared as part of the Love Where You Live Campaign with an additional five tonnes of waste removed from 21 streets last week. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Keep Roath Tidy voluntary group was also hard at work last Friday with eighteen volunteers clearing up Albany Road in partnership with the Council’s Neighbourhood Services Team. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This week, the blitz has moved in to Adamsdown focusing on 34 streets with a community litter pick planned on Friday at Brewery Park. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Bob Derbyshire, Cabinet Member for the Environment has thanked the community groups in both Plasnewydd and Adamsdown once again. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He said: “These two community groups are working well with the council and I would like to thank them for giving up their time and making such an effort to keep the streets in their community clean and tidy. The campaign has now removed about 70 tonnes of rubbish since it was launched in September last year and this is in addition to normal cleansing operations. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our campaign continues to spread the message to thank the majority of people that abide by the rules, recycle their waste and don’t litter our streets. The City Council cannot do this work alone, we need people to work with us and this is what this campaign is all about. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The message to those that continue to ruin the environment by fly tipping, chucking their waste out on the street when they feel like it, or litter our streets – our enforcement patrols are increasing. We will use the powers available to us and take appropriate action. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In Plasnewydd last week, between January 23 and January 27, the following additional work was carried out: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

• Shelly Gardens & Plasnewydd Gardens was cleaned
• Three pavements were repaired
• 271 out of 364 gullies were cleansed.

The Waste Enforcement Team was also hard at work, educating the public, investigating fly tipping incidents and on this occasion no penalty notices were issued. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

• Five fly tipping incidents were investigated and removed
• Eight households were investigated for the incorrect presentation of their waste
• Residents in five households were given advice on the incorrect presentation of their waste.
