Race The Dragon In Cardiff This May

A festival for the world’s fastest growing water sport is planned in Cardiff Bay this May. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Cardiff Dragon Boat Festival is scheduled to take place in Atlantic Wharf on Sunday 14th May and proceeds will go to the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity – Cancer Research Wales. Up to 40 teams of 16 paddlers will race twelve metre long traditional dragon boats to a rhythm set by an on-board drummer. Participants are asked to enter teams of up to 20 people to include reserves and a team drummer. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Monica Walsh said: “This sounds like a fun day out for the entire family as I am told that along with the spectacular boat races there will also be children’s entertainment, live music and food stalls. For those who fancy a more energetic day out I encourage you all to speak to colleagues and friends and register a team on the Race the Dragon website. The work done by Cancer Research Wales is such a good cause and this is a great opportunity to do some good and have fun at the same time.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A spokesperson for Race the Dragon said: “It is important to stress that no previous experience of dragon boat racing is required, full training and safety briefings form part of the event experience. We provide the Dragon Boats, paddles, buoyancy aids and qualified helms. All participants have to do is register teams of at least 16 people and turn up for a fun day that they’ll never forget! Originating from China over 2000 years ago the history of dragon boat racing is steeped in a magical yet heroic myth and has become the world’s fastest growing water sport.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
