Waste Not, Want Not Top Of The Agenda For Go Green Week At Cardiff Met

Students and staff across Cardiff Met are celebrating Go Green Week with a huge range of events and activities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Now in its fifth year at Cardiff Met, Go Green Week is People and Planet’s annual week of action on climate change that takes place in universities, schools and colleges across the UK. Back in November, the university was ranked top university in Wales in the People and Planet League 2016 and was placed fourth out of 150 universities in the UK. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The week is designed to engage, inform and inspire the university’s staff and students about environmental and sustainability issues. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Emma Robson from Cardiff Digs is running a ‘Love Food Hate Waste’ session to provide tips on reducing food waste, including how to engage with others and passing on the message. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Green City Events, a local community group, are holding their first monthly workshop about urban gardening and growing city crops whilst the Students’ Union is working with Keep Wales Tidy to organise a litter pick around the Llandaff Campus. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Academic staff and postgraduate students are holding a range of talks with topics including ‘What can building performance learn from the atmosphere of Saturday Night Fever?’ by Cardiff School of Art and Design’s Dr John Littlewood. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

There was also a big presence in the School of Management with a selection of stalls featuring free bike MOTs by South Wales Police and YMCA clothes recycling. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
