Free Parking For Romantics In Carmarthen
Shoppers can benefit from free parking in Carmarthen on two of the most romantic days of the year.
There will be free parking at all council-owned car parks on St Dwynwen’s Day on January 25 and Valentine’s Day on February 14.
The Carmarthen Town Forum requested the two days of free parking to encourage shoppers into town during January and February, after the busy Christmas period.
Executive Board Member for the Environment Cllr Hazel Evans, who approved the free parking days, said: “I hope that people take advantage of this opportunity to park for free in Carmarthen on St Dwynwen’s Day and Valentine’s Day. They can show their romantic side and treat their loved one to a shopping trip, a meal out or even a trip to the cinema.”
Business leaders in the town have welcomed the news.
Claire Kirkham, deputy manager of Merlin’s Walk Shopping Centre in Blue Street, said: “The convenience and the cost of car parking is always in the minds of shoppers when they are visiting a town or city, whether it’s in the week or at weekends and anything the council can do to help shops and any other local businesses is appreciated.
“Hopefully it will attract more people from the outlying areas into the town as well.
“The shops in Merlin’s Walk will certainly be delighted with this two-day concession so shoppers can spend more time in the mall browsing for appropriate cards and gifts rather than keep checking the time to make sure they are not overrunning their parking.”
Further free parking days have been agreed for Saturday, February 25, which marks the start of Welsh Week in Carmarthen, and Saturday, March 25 for the Merlin Festival.
