Take A Closer Look At Dafen Park

Visitors to Dafen Park in Llanelli are being invited to take a closer look at nature. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

New signs have been put up to encourage people to discover more about some less obvious natural features there such as ivy and bark. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Visitors can also use their smart phones to find out more through the QR codes on the signs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Carmarthenshire County Council’s biodiversity officer Isabel Macho said: “In nature the small stuff matters! When we really start to notice the little things, a whole new world opens up to us. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Mosses, lichens and fungi are often overlooked but without them our lives would not be the same.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Executive board member for biodiversity Cllr Pam Palmer added: “It is hoped that the signs situated throughout the park will help people find out about the importance of some often overlooked species and habitats. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“By using the QR codes you can discover more facts about features such as bark, soil and ferns – you’ll be amazed at what you can find out.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
