Wheelchair Friendly Swing Hopes For Country Park

A charitable group is raising funds for a children’s disabled swing in Pembrey Country Park. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Gower and Llwchwr Estuary Lions Club has decided to fundraise for a swing to accommodate wheelchairs as part of their year of centenary, Legacy for the Future. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The club has set a target of £10k to raise on its gofundme page as well as holding other fund raising events during its 100th year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Park rangers are preparing an area in the children’s adventure playground, near the forest, to accommodate it. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The council’s executive board member for leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “We are delighted that Gower and Llwchwr Estuary Lions Club has decided to raise funds for a permanent wheelchair friendly swing for the park’s playground. Play equipment significantly improves social inclusion and also wellbeing and learning so please dig deep into your pockets and give generously.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The swing will complement the existing disabled facilities already available at Pembrey ski slope. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Liz Harries, Gower and Llwchwr Estuary Lions Club president said: “The swing will enable children in wheelchairs to have some enjoyment and not just watch from the side lines. We chose Pembrey Country Park as its location as it’s popular with visitors therefore benefitting more people.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
