Newport Hosting Beacon Event To Mark Queen’s Birthday
Beacons are being lit through the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and overseas territories to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday on Thursday 21 April.
Hundreds of local communities and organisations, including Newport City Council, are taking part in the celebrations.
Lord Lieutenant for Gwent, Brigadier Robert Aitken, CBE, DL, will light the Newport beacon in Queens Field, Ringland, and will read out a message from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
Newport’s Mayor Councillor Herbie Thomas will be among those attending the event.
Members of the public are invited to attend the event which begins at 8pm with the lighting of the beacon at 8.30pm.
Entertainment will be provided by Ringland Primary School and Greater Gwent Youth Brass Ensemble. If any other choirs or musical groups would like to take part, they can contact Jo Parcell on 01633 656656.
Parking in the area of the event is restricted so members of the public are asked to park safely and in a considerate manner away from the site and walk to the Queen’s Field which is off Edward German Crescent and Butterworth Close.
The event will finish at about 9pm.
