Beach pollution alert

A clean-up is underway at Nolton Haven after tar-like deposits were discovered at one end of the beach. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Warning signs are being erected and the public is advised to avoid direct contact with the deposits and to keep dogs on leads. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The alarm was raised by a member of the public this morning (Thursday, 4th February) and shortly afterwards the beach was inspected by officers from Pembrokeshire County Council, Natural Resources Wales and the Maritime Coastguard Agency. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Deposits of the substance were confirmed in a small area limited to the south end of the beach. Further materials may be deposited on subsequent high tides. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
