Young Musicians Perform With Welsh Guards
Thirty-two pupils from across Pembrokeshire enjoyed a morning workshop and an afternoon concert with the Band of the Welsh Guards at the Torch Theatre earlier this week.
The young musicians performed a wide range of music with the Welsh Guards, from the Pirates of the Caribbean theme tune to Bach’s Toccata in D Minor.
Philippa Roberts from Pembrokeshire County Council’s Music Service said it was a wonderful opportunity for the youngsters.
“Pembrokeshire Music Service has enjoyed a long relationship with the Corps of Army Music,” she said.
“The pupils really benefitted from the visit, and enjoyed a talk on life as an Army musician.”
The pupils worked in their wind band sections with the Welsh Guards in the morning, before uniting for the afternoon concert.
The Welsh Guards went on to perform a sell-out concert at the theatre in the evening featuring a performance by Amy Taylor, overall winner of the Valero secondary school music festival.
Based permanently at Wellington Barracks in London, the Welsh Guards’ primary role is to support State and ceremonial events. They can be seen regularly at the world famous ceremony of Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace, as well as at other national occasions.
