Books of Condolences in memory of Jo Cox MP are being opened across Rhondda Cynon Taf. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Members of the public will be able to go along to Aberdare Library, Treorchy Library and Municipal Building, Pontypridd, later today to pay their respects. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Flags continue to fly at half-mast at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council buildings as a mark of respect and remembrance for the West Yorkshire MP. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Cllr Andrew Morgan, said: “The murder of such a bright, popular young mother and wife in such circumstances is something which has sent shockwaves across the UK. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“As a Labour councillor and Leader of a Labour-led local authority, I speak on behalf of my party in Rhondda Cynon Taf, which has lost an important and respected colleague. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“But the death of Jo Cox is an attack on democracy and the grief it has caused crosses party lines and politics. It is a national tragedy that a young woman so focused on making life better for people not only in her constituency of Batley and Spen, but the rest of the UK and the world has had her life cut short so violently. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“As an MP and representative of the West Yorkshire community where she was raised, Jo was hugely respected and achieved a great deal that made life better for residents. But her approach to the world while she worked as an MP was one that she adopted long before she entered politics.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
