Ceramic Life Story Portraits Exhibition

A Ceramic Life Story Portraits Exhibition, celebrating the success stories of the young people of Rhondda Cynon Taf, has opened at the Cynon Valley Museum. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Fernhill Youth Project has been working with RCT Arts Service and local artists Cari Bailyes and Rhiannon Gray to create unique ceramic plaques, which form the basis of the exciting new exhibition. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

During workshops, the artists were tasked with creating a visual representation of their aspirations and goals for the next 10 years through the medium of clay. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Having been taught the new skills of hand-building and marking techniques with the two talented artists, members of the Fernhill Youth Project created some stunning clay creations, which now go on public display. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Culture, said: “The aim of the Ceramic Life Story Portraits Exhibition was to inspire creativity and raise the aspirations of young people living in our County Borough. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our young people have certainly excelled themselves and I look forward to their public art exhibition, made possible with the help of RCT Arts Service and through Families First funding.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Ceramic Life Story Portraits Exhibition is at the Cynon Valley Museum, Gadlys, Aberdare, until January 18. All are welcome. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
