New Coffee Shop For Students

A new coffee shop has opened at Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda – and is proving to be a huge hit with the students and staff. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A former kitchen area at the school has been completely redesigned and restructured and has now officially opened as a brand-new coffee shop called @cwtshcoffi ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The name was chosen by the students themselves and has provided a more sophisticated and mature environment in which pupils and staff can have some quality ‘time out’ during the school day. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Serving up hot and cold drinks as well as a mouth-watering menu at affordable prices, students and staff are able to enjoy the company of their friends and classmates in a relaxed atmosphere @cwtshcoffi which is run by the Council’s Catering Service. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The theme of the coffee shop is in line with a contemporary “high-street” style coffee shop, with the students and staff involved throughout the design process. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

It was designed and built by professional contractors specialising in high street coffee shops standards. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “It was a great pleasure for me to visit Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda and chat to those people who are using this wonderful facility. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Headteacher Rhian Morgan Ellis, said: “@cwtshcoffi has been planned, designed and built to enrich our provision at Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda. It is a space in which pupils can relax and enjoy communicating with each other. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We did not want to create the feeling of another school canteen, but rather a vibrant space that emulates a social environment. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

All the quality products and ingredients served @cwtshcoffi at Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda are in line with Food Safety Standards. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

As part of the Council’s #RCTinvest it is investing £200million over three years in improving schools, play areas, leisure, town and village centres and highways. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

As part of #RCTinvest, the Council will have invested over £100m on schools across the county borough by 2018/19. The majority of this investment will be on the Council’s ambitious 21st Century Schools programme which, with the support of Welsh Government, has already benefitted a number of communities across RCT. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Council has also invested £9m during 2016/17 on a range of school improvements at over 60 schools, benefitting pupils and staff across the County Borough. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
