Cannabis Worth £200,000 Seized In Barry And Maesteg Raids
Police have dismantled two cannabis factories in Maesteg and Barry – preventing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of the drug hitting the streets of South Wales.
Officers executing a warrant at an address in Tonna Road, Maesteg on Wednesday afternoon (25th January), discovered 42 cannabis plants spread out across two of the property’s bedrooms.
Less than half an hour later, a letting agent reported concerns about a property on Barry Road in Barry.
On arrival to the house, officers found more than 200 growing plants, and more than 150 pots containing freshly cut plants. At least eight rooms at the property were being used to facilitate the large-scale operation.
Both factories were swiftly closed down and all drugs and related equipment seized.
Enquiries are now ongoing to identify those running the operations.
Detective Inspector Julian Kerslake said: “Both incidents show how determined we are at South Wales Police to tackle both the misuse of drugs and those who are capitalising on it.
“Drugs continue to blight our communities and we will continue to target those involved in the supply of cannabis and other drugs in the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend.
“The cannabis recovered on Wednesday had an estimated street value of £200,000 and it would have made its way on to the streets of south Wales had it not been seized.
“But while these two factories have now been shut down, we are fully aware that more are continually being established by greedy criminals who have a total disregard for the law.
“As always, I would appeal to the public to contact us if they suspect illegal drug activity is taking place where they, as the second of these two incidents proves the public can make a very real difference by acting as our eyes and ears.
“We regularly act upon intelligence that is passed to us from the public and we actively encourage people to come forward and tell us what they know or suspect.”
