A community clean-up initiative has been taking place on Fernhill Estate, Glenboi in Mountain Ash which has brought together a number of local organisations to improve the appearance of the area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Over the recent bank holiday weekend members of the local community were joined by representatives from the local neighbourhood policing team, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Fernhill youth project and Trivallis Homes joined forces to transform their neighbourhood and clear away rubbish which has blighted the area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Local policing inspector Robert Blunt said: “The weekend was a great success and we were joined by a number of partner organisations who are committed to improving the appearance of the area and as a result raising the quality of life for everyone. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We cleared away a lot of rubbish which has been left by fly-tippers and which has built up over a period of time. Afterwards we could not believe the difference the work had made. The challenge now is to continue to work together to maintain the area in a clean and tidy sate. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Local Councillor for Mountain Ash West and Chair of Fernhill Youth Project, Councillor Andrew Morgan, said: “I wanted to bring a number of partners together to undertake the clean-up and it was great to see the positive outcome of so many different partners working with the community. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The Council’s Highways and Streetcare Team, Trivallis Homes, the local Community Police team, Communities First, the Cynon Valley Church and the Fernhill Youth Project all joined forces with local residents to undertake the clean-up, managing to collect just under one tonne of rubbish from the across the estate, including communal areas and the local brook. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The clean-up project shows just what can be achieved when a range of partners work closely together with each other and with the community and I am especially proud, as the Chair of the Youth Project, of the young people who took part. Some of the youngsters from the estate even had time for a kick about with the Police once they’d finished helping out! ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“As part of the wider day of action on the estate, the Council were also able to repaint road markings and carry out other repairs working with Trivallis. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“My thanks go to all those involved in the clean-up, partners and local people, which has made such a positive difference to the local area and local environment.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
