Nine-Year Prison Sentence For Assault In City Flat.
Aled Carter-Pannett (pictured) has been jailed for nine years and three months for a brutal and unprovoked assault.
The 22-year-old admitted a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent during an incident at his flat in Queen Street, Cardiff.
During the early hours of October 8 2015, Carter-Pannett assaulted a 31-year-old man, who he had met earlier that night, causing significant head injuries including a fractured skull and burn marks.
The victim spent five days in hospital having treatment for his injuries and is still recovering.
Detective Sergeant Chris Hathway, from South Wales Police, said: “While the case was investigated by CID detectives, response officers on the night were outstanding in quickly arresting Carter-Pannett, preserving evidence and ensuring the victim was properly cared for from day one.
“We hope the court result will allow the victim to continue the process of slowly rebuilding his life.”
Carter-Pannett was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on May 13, 2016.
Tackling violent crime is a priority for South Wales Police to keep people safe in their homes and in communities.
