As winner of the South Wales Police Learner of the Year Award, Pc Matthews was given £500 by sponsors Worshipful Livery Company of Wales to spend on a community project. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

And having previously been a Police Community Support Officer covering Pentwyn she knew exactly where the money should go. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“I have seen the outstanding work the Hollies school does with its pupils and I was delighted to be able to donate this money,” said Pc Matthews, now a response officer covering Llanishen and Llanederyn.
“I hope the children enjoy playing with their well-deserved new toys and benefit from the new equipment.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Speaking on behalf of the After School Club and Holidays Clubs, Manager Kay Hughes-Jones, pictured, said: “We would not be sustainable if it was not for the kind donations of individuals and partnerships with organisations such as South Wales Police.
“South Wales Police has supported Hollies Action Group Charity from the beginning and we are so grateful that Kirsty Matthews donated her reward cheque to the children who attend the clubs. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We are so grateful of the support South Wales Police, in particular local Police Officers and PCSOs, who take the time to know our school and most importantly our children.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This is the eighth year that The Livery Company of Wales has offered awards to young constables. Pc Matthews was given the award for her hard work, professionalism and enthusiasm. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Wing Commander Graeme Morgan, from The Livery Company of Wales, said: “The award is intended to recognise someone who has contributed significantly to the work of the police in the community and to provide funding for a project connected with that work.
“We are particularly pleased that Kirsty Matthews is continuing the line of worthy recipients of the award and that the children of Pentwyn are able to benefit from Kirsty’s commitment to that community.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
