Neighbourhood police officers covering the rural Vale of Glamorgan are out and about in villages and communities across the region helping to put the brakes on speeding motorists. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Responding to the concerns of many local residents, police officers and their PCSO colleagues will be carrying out a series of enforcement exercises in villages and towns throughout the area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In almost every ward with the Vale, speeding motorists is a PACT priority and one of the most talked about issues. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

PCSO Angela Stone said: “At a recent PACT meeting in Aberthaw local residents said they were very concerned at the way traffic speeds through their town and villages. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Officers will be targeting these areas and will carry out enforcement operations in an effort to reduce speeds and promote safer driving. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The area is also very popular with horse riders, cyclists and walkers and from this week the schools are back, bringing more children onto the roads and busier times as they walk to school. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“One successful local campaign by the villagers of Ystradowen has resulted in the installation of a Pelican crossing. However, vehicles using the A4222 between Cowbridge and Pontyclun road are still travelling irresponsibly through the village.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Neighbourhood beat manager, PC Stuart Elson said: “We regularly get reports from across the Vale about speeding vehicles. It is a PACT priority in the majority of our wards. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“South Wales Police is committed to reducing road traffic collisions and keeping people safe. Speed enforcement is an import part of this. Local residents and motorists can expect to see an increased number of speed enforcement exercises in the area. It is time for drivers to slow down or face the consequences.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“I hope that the work we will be carrying out in the coming weeks and months will show that Road Safety is an important priority for the local policing team and the community and has sent out a message to motorists that a zero tolerance stance will be taken to those who knowingly choose to break the law on our roads.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
