South Wales Police Polices With Pride
On Saturday (13th August 2016) officers from South Wales Police will be marching to show support and solidarity for the LGBT community of South Wales and unveiling the force’s new pride car.
Pride Cymru 2016 is Wales’ biggest annual celebration of equality and diversity. South Wales Police is a strong advocate of the LGBT community and celebrates the community we serve through everything we do.
Divisional Commander for Cardiff, Chief Superintendent Belinda Davies, said: “Each year thousands of people come to Cardiff for Pride Cymru to celebrate equality and diversity.
“Once again, our officers will be on duty to ensure the safe running of Pride Cymru and off-duty colleagues will show their support by taking part in the march through the city centre.
“Our new addition to this year’s celebration is our Pride car and we are absolutely delighted to unveil it at the event. The community of South Wales will see the car throughout the year, promoting the importance of the LGBT community and raising awareness of hate crime.
“South Wales has a long and proud tradition of strong, diverse communities and events such as these help to reinforce our commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities.”
Scot Anderson, South Wales Police LGBT Network Chair said: “We are delighted to be a part of Pride Cymru 2016. Members for the LGBT Network will be joining officers and staff to celebrate the day.
“Our pride car is a visual reminder to the LGBT community that South Wales Police is there to keep South Wales safe.
“Since the tragic events in Orlando, the LGBT community has been shocked to its core. Officers and staff have a clear message, we stand together, to protect and keep you safe
“Working with local policing teams and volunteers we will be providing information and crime prevention messaging to ensure that everyone stays safe when celebrating this fantastic day.”
South Wales Police will be promoting the National LGBT+ Police Network campaign to keep the LGBT+ community safe with pride which was launched on the 24th June 2016.
The campaign aims to reach out to the LGBT community across the UK to offer reassurance and guidance.
