Adult Social Care Consultation On-Going In Swansea

Consultations on Swansea’s adult social services and home care will close on February 10. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Hundreds of services users, relatives, carers and care workers have already responded on proposals to re-shape services to give adults more independence, choice and control. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Jane Harris, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Services for Adults and Vulnerable People, said: “We want to provide the right kind of support at the right time so it’s important for people to have their say in our two short surveys. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Your views count and will help us provide the best possible services. We want people to receive quality support to live as independently as possible at home as long as they can. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We welcome all views but I’m particularly keen to hear from service users and their carers as well as staff on the frontline who provide these services whether they work for the Council, an agency or private provider.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

One consultation is about Domiciliary Care which assists people in their own homes giving them the additional support they need to maintain their independence and quality of life. Measures under discussion include re-designing the existing short-term service (known as reablement) to help people do things for themselves by learning or re-learning the skills necessary for daily living. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Council is considering re-designing the existing long-term services too in order to include a rapid response service and a specialist dementia service. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

It wants to ensure consistent services wherever you live across Swansea and care workers spending less time travelling and more time caring. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Council is also consulting on a new approach to providing social care as a whole splitting support into four tiers from those who just need advice to stay active and happy at home, to residential care for those with complex needs. The aim would be to give people early assistance to help them retain their independence and to better assess what is available to meet their needs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
