A taster of what the new YGG Lôn Las Welsh Medium Primary will be like has been posted online.
The 3D walk through video takes viewers inside an artist’s impression of the school and is creating a real buzz about the £9.8 million build among pupils and parents alike.
The clip takes people through the new grand entrance on the lower level of the site which will house a reception, headteacher’s office, admin areas and a multi-functional hall.
There is also a walkthrough of the site’s upper level giving a real taste of just how well laid out, light and airy classrooms will be – some with ensuite facilities.
Audiences can see how classrooms are grouped around open shared learning areas in line with 21st century teaching and each classroom opens out into carefully designed outdoor spaces too.
The Lôn Las project is funded by Swansea Council and the Welsh Government as part of a 21st Century Schools programme to upgrade school facilities to help improve education and boost pupil attainment.
The scheme is also one of the ways the Council is investing in and meeting demand for Welsh Medium Education. Lôn Las will house around 500 pupils when complete in autumn 2017.
Cllr Jen Raynor, Cabinet member for Education, said: “The ability of staff to provide the best teaching possible can be severely stifled when the facilities they are in are not fit for 21st century learning.
“That’s why we have been working alongside the Welsh Government to invest millions of pounds in school buildings.
“The current Lôn Las buildings were old, poor, increasingly expensive to maintain and in great need of improvement if the school was going to continue to provide quality Welsh Medium education on the site.
“We know that hundreds of families wanted their children to continue to be taught at Lôn Las and that is why a great deal of effort was put into securing funding and coming up with a project that would fit that site.
“As the new fly through shows the new school will be truly state-of-the-art designed around the learning needs of this popular Welsh Medium primary.
“It will provide a safe, sound and fit for purpose environment with quality teaching and learning facilities necessary to provide a 21st Century standard education.”
The Lôn Las project is being led by Swansea Council’s Education projects team and Corporate Building Services and developed by Swansea-based company Dawnus.
