John Fielding Memorial Parade

A parade to remember Cwmbran hero John Fielding will take place on Saturday 21 January. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Those who wish to attend are asked to be at St Michael and All Angels church in Llantarnam for 10.30am to await the arrival of the band and parade of veterans marching from Abbyfields at 10.50am. The service will begin at 11am. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The day will mark the 138th anniversary of the 1879 Battle at Rorke’s Drift in which Private John Fielding received the Victoria Cross after defending a remote station against 4,000 Zulus. He died in 1932. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This annual event is organised by Cwmbran and District Ex-Service Association (CADESA). ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Please note that a section of Newport Road will be closed between 10am and 11:45am for the event. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
