Let’s Spring Into Action To Make A Cleaner, Greener Torfaen
Community groups, sports and social clubs, churches, schools and businesses are being urged to join in a Torfaen-wide spring clean.
From the beginning of March the council will be carrying out a deep clean of the borough, drafting in extra cleansing crews to target streets, shopping areas and parks, as well as road verges and other hard to reach areas.
To support the activity the council is inviting groups to get involved and take part in litter picks and clear ups in their area. The activity is being arranged to coincide with Keep Wales Tidy’s national Spring Clean Cymru campaign, which begins on 1 March and aims to encourage people across Wales to help clean up their areas.
Councillor John Cunningham, executive member for neighbourhoods, said: “We are committed to tackling the blight of litter and fly tipping in our communities, and have invested extra resources in our street cleansing teams to carry out a deep cleanse of the borough.
“However, keeping the environment clean is all of our responsibility, and to make a real difference we need the community to come out and join us in making Torfaen a cleaner, greener place to live.”
The leader of Torfaen council, Anthony Hunt, said: ““Residents have told us that a cleaner, greener borough is one of their key priorities and we are investing extra resources into our street cleansing service to help achieve this.
“We do a huge amount of work to tackle issues such as litter, flytipping and dog fouling but only by working with our communities can we really make a difference in tackling these issues.
“I would urge as many groups as possible to get involved. We will do all we can to encourage and support groups to play their part and I look forward to working with everyone to improve the environment in Torfaen.”
