Cycle Challenge Raises Funds In Memory Of Myfyr Thomas
Myfyr Thomas passed away in a road traffic collision 10 years ago, and a group of his friends and family are remembering him by cycling the welsh coastline and raising lifesaving funds for a welsh helicopter charity.
Eilir Thomas, from Llanrwst, lost his brother a decade ago in a road traffic accident. In his memory, Eilir and group of friends will be tackling a gruelling cycling challenge to fundraise for Wales Air Ambulance.
The group will cycle the Wales coastal path, starting in Queensferry and finishing in Chepstow, collecting donations for WAA.
Eilir said: “It will be 10 years this October since my brother died in a car accident. And as a way of remembering him, a group of his friends and family have decided to do the challenge and cycle around the coast of Wales.
“Myfyr died instantly in the accident, but if things would have been different, most probably the air ambulance would have been called.
“Because of this, we felt that we’d like to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance.”
The cycling team will set off from Queensferry, tackling the challenging ride through Barmouth, onto Aberystwyth.
The charity bike ride will then travel down through the glorious welsh scenery to the Pembrokeshire coast, and along to the Gower, before cycling onto Cardiff and Chepstow.
Eilir and his team of bikers are collecting sponsorship for their cycling challenge to raise funds for Wales Air Ambulance.
This is the second time Eilir has raised funds for the welsh helicopter charity in memory of his brother. At Myfyr’s funeral, £6,000 was raised for the Nant Conwy Rugby Club and Wales Air Ambulance.
Lynne Garlick, North Wales WAA Fundraising Manager, said: “Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £6 million every year to fund our missions across Wales.
“We are so grateful that the team decided to take on the cycling challenge in aid of us, and we are honour that they would raise funds for us in memory of Myfyr.”
